Frequently asked questions

No, you shouldn’t stop your medication or conventional treatment without consulting your doctor. In general, homeopathic remedies are complementary to the use conventional medicines.

The General Practitioner (GP) has a central role in the Dutch health care system. However, you don’t need a referral letter of a GP for a homeopathic treatment. Often, a GP would like to be informed of any complementary treatments. If you wish, we will inform your GP about the treatment you receive. Naturally, you may also inform your GP yourself.

It is difficult to predict the number of consultations you may need as it depends on the nature of your health problem. In general, fewer consultations are needed for acute health problems than chronic ones. After a few consultations we assess whether or not sufficient progress has taken place. In some cases we may feel it necessary to refer you to another health practitioner.

Classical Homeopathy is an effective treatment for almost all health problems. The gentle, natural treatment may provide a solution for physical, emotional and psychological complaints, of either an acute or chronic nature. It may also serve as a supportive treatment to conventional treatment, e.g. for a faster recovery after a surgery or to prevent annoying side effects.

No, homeopathic remedies have not been tested on animals. The remedies have only and extensively been tested on humans.

Homeopathic remedies are derived from all naturally occurring substances, whether vegetable, animal or mineral substances.

Homeopathic remedies do not have the side effects conventional medicines or treatments may give. However, reactions or an initial aggravation of symptoms may occur, since a homeopathic treatment aims at stimulating the self-healing capacity. These reactions are temporary.

An initial aggravation is a temporary and short aggravation of your symptoms. It does not always occur.

It is not easy to predict the course of a treatment. Acute health problems often improve instantly or within a few days. For chronic health problems, it often takes a longer period to see results. In general, you may experience a reaction on the remedy within a few weeks.

There is no consensus about this amongst homeopaths. In practice, we experience that a well-chosen remedy is not hampered by use of some coffee or mint. However, in a few cases we may advise you to restrict the use of coffee and/or to avoid the use of mint and recommend the use of menthol-free tooth paste. Various menthol-free tooth paste are available, such as Weleda, Elmex and Homeofresh.

You don’t have to believe in Classical Homeopathy. Children and animals react very well to homeopathic treatment. Naturally, having confidence in the homeopathic treatment enhances the healing of your health problems, which is the case for all health treatments.
